“Kow” 扣 Grip-Lock Technique

“Kow” or Grip lock technique is for trapping the limbs so that the person cannot move away for your subsequent technique i.e. throws, punches, nerve pinching, seizing and control, etc..

The methods learnt in the seminar will help the practitioner to improve his/her skill in grip techniques in the practice of martial arts regardless of martial arts style.

Seminar will cover:

  • Conditioning methods for the grip – lock training
  • Some applications of grip lock techniques

Seminar will also cover the concept of “fa jing” in Mandarin (or “faat geng” in Can‐ tonese). “Jing” (or “Geng” in Cantonese) is a terminology to describe “Shocking Power” where the shock is transmitted through the surface object into the internal organs of one’s body. One will need to discover one’s “Jing” through practice.

Michael Chan began his kung fu training in Hong Kong in the late 1960s. He was selected to represent the Buk Sing Choy Li Fut style and successfully qualified through selection trials process to represent Hong Kong to the 1979 3rd World Kuoshu Tourna‐ ment which was held in Taiwan. Michael is one of the co‐founders of the Nam Kuen training system.

Kin Sze is the founder of Bamboo Kung Fu School and certified personal trainer with Can‐Fit‐Pro. He began his kung fu career in early 1991 under the tutelage of Grandmaster Paul Chan of Hong Luck Kung Fu Club in Toronto. He obtained silver and bronze med‐ als while representing Canada at the 1st World Traditional Wushu Festival held in Zhengzhou, Fujian Province, China in 2004. In 2001, Kin Sze has achieved a silver medal in the 70kg division of the Canadian National Sanshou Selection Trials for the 6th World Wushu Championships.
