A Good Pair of Tae Kwon Do Shoes

Who knows what’s on the floor of your club. It’s filthy, and there is no way you want to walk around barefoot. Your only option? To get a good pair of Tae Kwon Do shoes so you can train without having to worry about picking up Athlete’s Foot or some other nasty problem.

But there’s a lot of selection out there. Don’t just pay for some cheap pair of shoes that will break after one class. Find a pair that can take your kind of training.

The Sole of The Tae Kwon Do Shoes

With all those kicks, it is essential that the sole is flexible and flat. Before you buy the tae kwon do shoes, bend one back and forth to see if you will be able to point and flex your foot in it. Complete mobility is important, and you don’t want anything to hinder that. The sole should be thick enough to resist the friction of your movement, but thin enough that your feet will still be able to feel the ground through them. It’s also a good idea to choose soles that don’t have too much tread on them, since this could also hinder movement in your tae kwon do class.

The Upper

For the upper of the tae kwon do shoe, it is vital that it is thin and as flexible as the sole. It should not have bulky laces, as their bulk could hurt the top of your foot during a kick that utilizes the area, such as a roundhouse. Therefore, a good pair of tae kwon do shoes will be a slip-on that stays on your foot with some type of elasticised closure. Velcro may also be an option, in which case it should be durable enough to resist the constant opening and closing every time you put them on and take them off.

Check the seams, particularly in the area that joins the sole to the rest of the shoe. Make sure it’s well sealed, whether it is stitched or glued together. However, stitches tend to last longer than glued seams.

The tae kwon do shoe must be made from leather (except for the sole). Vinyl will not last as long and does not provide enough ventilation for your feet.
