Some Tips to Help You Find a Good Pair Of Boxing Gloves
With so many boxing gloves out there, it’s hard to know what to look for. While price is sometimes a good indication of quality, it’s not foolproof. You could check what country they are made in, but that’s also questionable.
You’ve got to know what you’re looking for.
After all, you don’t want to spend your money on something that will break after one match or one round on the heavy bag. It’s a waste of money and time.
Here are a few things to look for when you’re looking to buy a new pair of boxing gloves:
The Velcro Strap Closure
If the boxing gloves have a velcro strap closure, make sure it’s a good and sturdy one instead of some thin and flimsy bit of material with some velcro stitched on it.
The strap will probably be the most used and abused part of the boxing glove. You’ll have to undo and redo it every time you put the gloves on, which means that the velcro will need to be durable to the constant use. Plus, the leather (or vinyl) of the strap will have to be able to endure yanking, tugging and most likely, biting, since most people take the first glove off by undoing the velcro strap with their teeth. Make sure that the strap is thick enough to resist your teeth, and strong enough so your gloves don’t fly off of your hands during a match.
The Lace-Up Closure
Lace-ups aren’t as popular as they used to be. But they still are popular in the ring. So, if you’re looking to buy lace-up boxing gloves, make sure the holes the laces go through are well reinforced, and the seams in the area tightly sealed.
The Padding
All gloves have some type of padding. Look for thick high density foam, or latex. You have to protect your knuckles, and your opponent’s face, so make sure it’s not some thin foam that will thin out after a few punches.
